Ford had a tryout as a free agent with the Washngton Redskins of the NFL in 1986. He signed with Ottawa in February, 1987 and had a promising rookie season with 63 tackles in just 12 games. He also ran back one interception 38 yards for a TD. Ottawa released Ford in November of 1987 and he signed with Hamilton. Ford played three games for the Tiger-Cats in 1988 before being traded to Calgary for DB Scott Flagel. Ford finished the year with 91 defensive tackles (77 with Calgary), two sacks and three interceptions. For his contributions, Ford was named to the West All-Star team in 1988.
