A Montreal native who was a standout quarterback and basketball captain for West Hill High School (Montreal) leading teams in both sports to city championships in 1944. Peter continued his gridiron and roundball magic with the McGill Redmen in 1945, but due to intercollegiate rules in force at the time, Finlay was not eligible to play senior football as a freshman. As a result he played for the QRFU team that McGill fielded in 1945. Finlay played for the Montreal Alouettes in their first year in 1946 and then joined the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1947 as starting quarterback and defensive half and playing four seasons in the nation's capital. After leaving the CFL, Finlay stayed in the Ottawa area playing and coaching senior basketball. Peter Finlay passed away on May 16, 2014 at the age of 86.
