A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Festeryga naturally played for the Hamilton Tigers junior team and then joined the Hamilton Tigers senior team where he played for two years (1947-48). The Tigers would go on to merge with the Hamilton Wildcats in 1950 to become the Hamilton Wildcats, but by then Festeryga had moved on to play in Montreal (1949), Saskatchewan (1950) and Edmonton (1951-52). With Montreal, Festeryga was part of the first Grey Cup championship of the Alouettes. George Festeryga passed away on January 7, 2010.
