Bernie FaloneyFaloney was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1954, but they wanted him to play defensive back and backup at QB, so Faloney came north to Edmonton to play QB. In one of those rare occurances, Edmonton had two rookie QBs in 1954 who both went on to become Hall of Famers. The other guy, if you don't know, was Jackie Parker. Faloney's rookie season was hardly outstanding as he completed only 36.6% of his 71 attempts. Faloney missed 1955 and 1956 due to military service and returned to Canada in 1957 with Hamilton where he played for the next eight years (1957-1964). Faloney captured four Eastern All-Star awards at QB with Hamilton for 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1964 (All Canadians did not start until 1962). Faloney was also named the Outstanding Player in the CFL in 1961 and led Hamilton to a Grey Cup over BC in 1963. Faloney moved to Montreal for two seasons (1965-66), capturing an East All-Star with the Als in 1965. Faloney moved to BC for his final season in 1967 and went out with a bang, having probably his second best season (after his 61 season) statistically with the lowly Lions. Faloney completed 56.5% of his passes for a career high 3303 uards. Bernie Faloney passed away on June 14, 1999.
