Clare Exelby

Clare Exelby played junior football with the Parkdale Lions (Toronto), and moved up to the Argos in 1958. Exelby didn't get to see a whole lot of action in his two years with the Argos (1958-59), and went West to Calgary in 1960. Exelby blossomed with the Stampeders, recording a division leading 8 interceptions and being named a West All-Star (there were no CFL All-Stars until 1962). Exelby scroed two touchdowns for Calgary in 1960, one on an interception return and one on a fumble return. Exelby returned to Toronto in 1961 and played three years (1961-63) in his second stint with the double blue. Exelby had 4 interceptions in his first year back in Toronto in 1961, then missed half of the 1962 season with injuries. Exelby had one inter ception that he returned 59 yards in 1963 for his third career TD. Exelby moved to Montreal for his final two years in 1964 and 1965, recording five interceptions and upping his career total to 18. Besides playing defensive back, Exelby was also often used on punt returns.
