Ted Elsby was born in Galt, Ontario and played highschool football there. Elsby then moved up to play with the Brantford Redskins of the ORFU and according to one report he sometimes jogged from Galt to Brantford to practice and then jogged home. Talk about being in good condition. Elsby joined Montreal in 1953 and played 12 seasons with the Alouettes (missing the 1954 season). Elsby played both offense and defense, but was used mainly as a defensive tackle, winning an East All-Star, at that position in 1964. That was a very good years for Elsby as he was also the Montreal nominee for Oustanding Player, Outstanding Canadian and Outstanding Lineman. It was Elsby's third nomination for Outstanding Canadian as he was also the Montreal nominee in both 1957 and 1963. Ted Elsby passed away on November 5, 1985. Elsby had a TD in 1964. The stats don't indicate the source, but probably was on the fumble recovery.
