Robert Edwards

Robert Edwards was an All-American while at Georgia, and a first round draft pick of the New England Patriots in the 1998 NFL College Draft.  Edwards sustained a severe knee injury during a flag football game for rookies after rushing for over a thousand yards in his rookie season.  It was thought that Edwards might not even walk again, let alone play football.   Edwards proved those people wrong and returned to football with the Miami Dolphins in 2002 for which he won the 2003 Jim Thorpe award for courage.  Edwards was released the following season and again it looked like his career was over, but he proved people wrong for the second time.  Edwards joinen the Montreal Alouettes as a free agent in March 2005 and had an excellent first season in the CFL.  Edwards rushed for 1199 yards in just 14 games with an impressive 6.4 yards per carry average.  Edwards won an East All-Star in his first season and followed it up in 2006 with another thousand yard season (1155 yards) and a second East All-Star.  Perhaps looking for a younger, faster running back, Edwards was released by Montreal early in the 2007 season.  With injury problems at running back, the Toronto Argos picked up Edwards who ran for 596 yards in half a season. Toronto released Edwards after the 2007 season.
