After an outstanding college career at Auburn that featured two major bowl game appearances (2000 Citrus Bowl and 2001 Peach Bowl), Duval had tryouts with both Jacksonville and Atlanta of the NFL. When Duval started his CFL career in 2005 with the Alouttes, he was a bit of a rare species in the CFL, an import kicker. In recent times, with only a limited number of spots available for imports, most teams went with a Canadian in the kicking slot. A few other import kickers have come and gone, but Duval is still here, and that is a testimony to how good a kicker he is. Duval handles and excels all aspects of the kicking game, and that is increasingly rare in this era of specialization where often the plackkicking and punting duties are split. Duval has averaged over 60 yards per kickoff in all four seasons to date, which is the "gold mark" for kickoffs. For punting, Duval has been over 45 yards per kick in three of his four seasons, barely missing in his first season with 44.6. Duval was recognized for his punting in 2007 when he was named both the East and CFL All-Star punter. In terms of placekicking, Duval has twice connected on over 80% of his fieldgoal attempts, with his best season so far coming in 2006 when he hit an excellent 86.4%. 2008 was not far behind at 83.0% and that earned Duval an East All-Star as a placekicker. Duval also set a new personal high with 206 points in 2008, the second time he has eclimpsed the 200 point mark in his career.
