Jimmy Douglas played with the University of Toronto in 1920 at Snap (Center). From there, Douglas went on to play with the Toronto Argos from 1921-27 (except for 1922). With the Argos, Douglas played Center, Tackle (Middle) and in the backfield at Flying Wing. Douglas took up coaching in 1928 as the coach of the University of Toronto Orphans team in the ORFU. The team beat Toronto Balmy Beach and Sarnia in the East playoffs before losing to the eventual Grey Cup champion Hamilton Tigers in the East final. In 1929, Douglas took over as the coach of the University of Toronto. Just before the start of the season, Douglas underwent an emergency operation appendix operation. It looked like he was going to recover, but died on October 3, at the age of 31.
