Dave DickensonDickenson has put some very impressive numbes, especially for pass completion percentages in his CFL career. He has hit on over 60% of his passes in every season he has played in the CFL so far, and three times has been over 70%. Two of those 70% sesons coming in years he threw over 300 passes. Dickenson joined the Calgary Stampeders in 1996, but did not dress for any games until 1997. Dickenson backed up Jeff Garcia four a couple of years, until Garcia went south to the NFL and Dickenson took over the #1 job in 1999. He threw for 3048 yards in his first full season as the #1 QB and then upped that to 4636 in 2000. In that 2000 season, Dickenson was both a West and All-Canadian All-Star, as well as winning the Most Outstanding Player award in the CFL. In 2001, Dickenson followed Garcia south to the NFL, but didn't have the success there that Garcia did, and returned North in 2003 to the BC Lions. Dickenson had a fabulous return season with BC, thowing for a career high 5496 yards and completing 64.7% of his passes to win West All-Star Honours. Dickenson had injury problems in 2004, limiting his action to only 8 games. Rookie Casey Printers took over as the #1 QB, and was also named the Outstanding Player in the CFL. In the Grey Cup, however, coach Wally Buono went with the veteran Dave Dickenson in a controversial decision. Toronto ended up beating BC, led in a bit or irony, by Damon Allen. It was Allen who had been released by BC after the Lions signed Dickenson the prevous year. Dickenson had some more injury problems in 2005 and 2006, but still threw more than 300 passes, compelting over 70% of them in both seasons. In the 2006 Grey Cup, there was some vindicatin for Dickenson as he led the Lions to a 24-14 win over Montreal. Injuries in the form of repeated concussions struck Dickenson again in 2007 and he had only 87 pass attempts. Dickenson was released by BC after 2007 as they elected to go with the younger QBs Jarious Jackson and Buck Pearce who had filled in ably when Dickenson was injured. He later signed for a second stin with the Calgary Stampeders.
Dickenson had one pass reception for 25 yards in 2000. |
