From the University of South Carolina, sam DeLuca was drafted in the second round of the 1957 NFL draft by the New York Giants. DeLuca elected, however, to come to Canada and played two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts (1957-58) before returning to the States. DeLuca played t hree seasons in the newly formed AFL (1960, 1961 and 1963) wih the Los Angelas / San Diego Chargers and then three seasons with the New York Jets (1964-66) A knee injury in the 1967 pre-season finished DeLuca's playing career. DeLuca then started a second football related career when the Jet's regular announcers were not available due to a strike. DeLuca did such a good job, they brought him back as a regular and he continued as an analyst on radio through 1986. Sam DeLuca passed away on September 13, 2011 from pancreatic cancer.
