Debrueys was selected in the second round (18th overall) by Edmonton in 1982 college draft. He had only five pass receptions in his rookie season, but took two of them in for touchdows. Edmonton released DeBrueys in July of 1983 and he was picked up by BC where he spent the next three seasons (1983-85).
