Collins was sixth round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins of the NFL in 1992. After his release by Miami, Collins had a tryout with the Dallas Cowboys, but was released without playing any regular season games for them. Collins signed as a free agent with the Sacrmento Goldminers in Septebmer 1993, and moved with the club to San Antonio in 1995.
