Ciancone was a first round pick (third overall) by Winnipeg in the 1980 CFL college draft. Ciancone joined the Blue Bombers in 1981 and played three seasons for them before being traded in June of 1984 to Montreal for linebacker Delbert Fowler. Ciancone recorded 7 interceptions in two seasons for he Alouttes, including running one back for a touchdown. It was Ciancone's second career touchdown, the other coming on a fumble recovery in his rookie season in 1981.
