Justin Canale was one of the last non-specialist kickers in CFL history. The strong but gentle man as he was remembered by many played offensive guard and handled the kicking chores for the Montreal Alouettes in 1971. Canale finished second in he East in scoring that year with 77 points, behind only specialist Gerry Organ of Ottawa. Canale actually had the most fieldgoals in the division with 19. The following season (1972) Canale was replaced by specialist kicker Don Sweet. Canale played his college football at Mississippi State, and was one of five football playing brothers from Memphis. Canale would go on to playf five seasons in the AFL (1965-69) with the Boston Patriots and the Cincinnati Bengals. Canale played three seasons with the Alouettes (1970-72), one season with Calgary (1973) and one final season with Toronto in 1976. Between Calgary and Toronto, Canale played two seasons for the Memphis Southmen of the USFL (1974-75). Whle with the Alouettes in 1970, Canale won the Grey Cup.
