Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Ron Calcagni played four years (1975-78) of college football for Arkansas. In his senior year, Calcagni led Arkansas to a victory in the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma, and played for the West team in the Hulu Bowl. NFL teams showed interest in Calcagni, but as a running back, so Calcagni signed with the Montreal Alouettes where he would get a chance to play quarterback. Calcagni dressed for 16 games as the backup quarterback for the Als in 1979, seeing limited action. Calcagni was in the Als' training camp in 1980, but was released and picked up by the Ottawa Rough Riders. Calcagni played two seasons (1980-81) with the Rough Riders, again as a backup quarterback. After leaving the CFL, Calcagni had tryouts with the Oklahoma Outlaws and the Memphis Showboats of the USFL. Calcagni was selected for the Razorbacks Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. [Note: The 1979 and 1980 CFL Record Manuals list Calcagni's birthday incorrectly (?) as June 3, 1957] Ron Calcagni Remembered at Arkansas College Football Stats for Calcagni Calcagni Signs With Alouettes - May 18, 1979 Calcagni Set For Second Season With Als - June 22, 1980 Calcagni Signs With Outlaws - August 10, 1983 Calcagni Released By Memphis - February 10, 1984
