There is a long tradition linking football in Winnipeg and Minnesoata, strating with exhibition games betwee nthe Bombers and university teams back in the the 1930s and 40s. With that in mind, it is not at all strange for Dave Burkholder, a native of Minneapolos and who played football at the University of Minnesota to end up playing for the bombers in the CFL. Burholder was a standout offensive guard and linebacker who played for the Blue and Gold from 1958 to 1964. In those seven seasons, Burkholder won three West All-Stars (1958, 1960 and 1961) at linebacker (there were no CFL All-Stars until 1962). Burkholder played on four Grey Cup winning t eams in 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1962. Burkholder was selected for the Winnipag Football Club Hall of Fame in 1989. Dave Burkholder passed away on October 12, 1999.
