Frank Budd was a world class sprinter who finished fifth in the 100m race at the 1960 summer olympics. Bddd was also part of the 4 x 100 relay team that won the even, but was disqualified for an illgal baton exchange. In 1961, Budd set a world record in th 100m, and was considered at that time to be the fastes human on earth. That kind of speed, as has often been the case with sprinters, attracted the attention of football teams who salivated at the prospect of that kind of speed even though Budd had never played football while at Villanova. Budd wasdrafted in the seventh round of the 1962 NFL college draft by Philadelphia. Budd played two seasons in the NFL, though seeing limited action. Buddplayed in 1962 with the Philadelphia Eagles and in 1963 with the Washington Redskins. Budd had 5 pass receptions in each season and returned 10 kickoffs for Washington in 1963. Budd eventually came to Canada to play two seasons in the CFL with Calgary in 1965 and 1966. Budd didn't post big numbers in terms of receptions but did have an excellent average yards per reception of well over 20 yards in both seasons.
