From the University of Missouri, Sam Britts joined the Edmonton Eskimos in 1973 and won a West All-Star in his rookie season. Britts jumped to the World Football League in 1974, a move that set of legal wrangling between the Eskimos and the Detroit Wheels of the WFL. Britts but returned to play for Edmont in 1975 but hurt his knee late in the season. The guy who Edmonton called in to replace Britts was named Dan Kepley. It was not quite a Wally Pipp / Lou Gehriog story, but it did make Britts expendable to Edmonton. From there, Britts spent two seasons in Hamilton (1976-77) and four with the BC Lioins from 1978 to 1981.
