Born in Toronto, Bill Briggs played college football at Iowa in the United States.  Briggs played with the Toronto Argonauts from 1945 to 1949* and then went to Edmonton where he played 8 seasons from 1950 to 1957.  Briggs played mainly center and linebacker, but also saw some action as an end on offence (see his receiving stats), and did some punting.  Briggs won four Grey Cups, one with Toronto in 1947 and three in consecutive years with Edmonton rom 1954-56. Bill Briggs has passed away (see mention in Memories of the 54 Grey Cup below).

* the Argo All-time roster lists Briggs as playing in 1945 and 1947-49. Briggs does not appear to have played any games though in 1945. There is also a Briggs (no first name) who appears as an end with the 1944 Toronto Navy Bulldogs who might be Bill Briggs.  If anyone has information on that, please see the Contact Me iink above.
