Jim Brandt

Born in Fargo, North Dakota  Brandt was a star halfback at Bold High in Olivia MN and played college ball at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. Brandt was selected 140th overall in the 1951 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing for them in a part-time role for three seasons . His most successful campaign was 1953 where he received his first starting  assignment and responded with two touchdowns on October  24, 1953. Slowed by injuries in 1954, he failed to make the team in 1955 and was invited for a tryout  by the Alouettes in September, 1955 when the team lost Chuck Hunsinger and rookie Blackie Kincaid to injuries in a game against the Argos.  Brandt spent most of his time with the team on the “inactive list” (which replaced the injury list) when he signed a contract with the team. J.C. Caroline had been signed at the same time and received almost all of the playing time. Brandt served as backfield insurance, but only had 9 carries for the team.
