Ricky Bell was born in Columbia, South Carolina and played his college football at North Carolina State. Bell was not drafted, but signed as a free agent by Pittsburgh in 1996. Bell was released early in the season and was signed by Jacksonville. Bell went on to play three years in the NFL (1996-98) with Jacksonville and Chicago where he dressed for 31 games in total. After a stint in NFL Europe with Barcelona in 1999, Bell signed with Calgary in May of 2001 and had a good rookie season with the Stampeders as Calgary went on to win the Grey Cup. Bell was drafted by the Ottawa Renegades in the expansion draft and played for Ottawa in 2002 until October when he was traded to Winnipeg for the rights to kicker Steve Christie. Bell played for Winnipeg in for another two seasons (2003-04) until being traded to Montreal for LB Ryan Folk for the 2005 season. Montreal released Bell after the 2006 season and Bell was signed by Edmonton in March of 2007. Edmonton released Bell just prior to the start of the 2007 season. After the CFL, Bell played one season for the Georgia team in the Arena Football League in 2008. Ricky Bell passed away on February 17, 2011.
