Out of Iowa, where he was a Heisman Trophy finalist. Despite his college succes, Banks was not drafted by the NFL, and signed as a free agent with the Washington Redskins. After his release by Washington, Banks was signed by the Ottawa Renegades in March of 2004. Banks was the backup quarterback and played well when he saw action, completing 63.2% of his passes and throwing for seven touchdowns with only two interceptions. Banks didn't see muc playing time in 2005 with Ottawa, and then was selected by Winnipeg in the dispersal draft when the Ottawa club folded. After one season of limited action with the Bombers, Banks was traded in June of 2007 to Montreal for Kliff Kingsburry. Bankds played two seasons in Montreal (2007-08), but saw very little action behind starter Anthony Calvillo. In 2011, Banks signed with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League.
