Kent Austin
The strong armed QB signed as a free agent with Saskatchewan in October of 1987 and played 5 games for them in that season. Austin played for the Riders through the 1993 season and is probably best remembered for leading the Roughriders to only their second franchise Grey Cup victory in 1989, a game in which he was named the offensive star. Austin was a Western and CFL All-Star in 1990 and in both 1992 and 1993 threw more than 700 passes and totalling almost 12,000 yards in those two seasons. In March of 1994 Austin was traded o Ottawa for DB Anothony Drawhorn, LB Ron Goetz and DL Paul Yatkowski. Ottawa turned around and traded Austin to BC for QB Danny Barrett and DB Cory Dowdell. Austin played one season in BC (1994) and was traded in May of 1995 to Toronto for WR Robert Gordon and DB Eddie Thomas. Austin was traded to Winnipeg for the 1996 season and released by the Bombes in February of 1997. After retiring, Austin moved to the coaching side and was the offensive coordinator for the Toronto Argos before returning to Saskatchewan to become head coach of the Riders in 2007. As the Rider head coach, Austin led Saskatchewan to their third Grey Cup in 2007, the first for the franchise since he was the QB of the second cup winner. In a surprise move, Austin resigned as the Rider head coach after the 2007 to take an assistant coaching job at Mississipi.
