Les Ascott was born in Peterbrough, ON and started his senior / professional football career with his hometown Peterbrough team in the ORFU in 1939. Ascott joined the Toronto Argonauts in 1940 and played two seasons with the double blue before the outbreak of World War II shut down the Argonauts and the IRFU / Big Four. Ascott joined the Canadian Navy for the war, and like many footballers, was able to continue playing with military teams. Ascott played with the Toronto Navy Bulldogs in 1942 and 1944 and with a Halifax Navy team in 1943. Ascott returned to the Argonauts in 1945 and remained with them through the 1953 season. Those were the glory years for the Argonauts. In the nine years from 1945 to 1953, Ascott and the Argonauts appeared in five Grey Cups and won all of them, including three in a row in 1945, 1946 and 1947. the other two wins coming in 1950 and 1952 Les Ascott passed away on August 8, 2013.
