A product of the Bishop's Gaiters, Nick Arakgi was the successor to Peter Dalla Riva as the big Tight End / Slotback for the Montreal Alouttes. Arakgi was a territorial draft exemption of the Als in 1979. Arakgi paid his dues as a backup receiver for his first three seasons (1979-81), but got his chance as a regular in 1982. He responded with 89 catches for 1062 yards to capture East All-Star honours. Arakgi had 61 catches in 1983 and 67 in 1984 for his second thousand yard receiving in 1984. Arakgi was both an All-Canadian selection in 1984, and was name the Outstanding Canadian. Araki had 56 catches in 1985 and won East All-Star honours. Arakai missed all of 1986 due to injuries. When the Montreal franchise folded after the 1986 season, Arakgi was selected by Winnipeg in the dispersal draft. He played one season in Winnipeg, with 43 catches for 534 yards. Arakgi played in one Grey Cup game in his rookie season of 1979, but that was the second of five straight Grey Cup wins by the Edmonton dynasty. Nick's son, Jason Arakgi, is also a CFL player, currently (2011) with the BC Lions.
