Allen was a QB and defensive back at Utah. He came to the CFL in 1965, playing 2+ seasons for the Lions and finishing his playing career in Edmonton. Allen saw action mainly as a defenisve back with 8 career interceptions, but did see some action as a backup QB for the Lions in 1966. After his retirement, Allen became a very successful coach, starting as an assistant coach with Simon Fraser. He had numerous other coaching jobs in the Amercian colleges, and was a defensive coordinator with the Portland Breakers of the USFL.
