Dick Aldridge was born in Toronto and played his college football at the University of Waterloo. While at Waterloo (1960-65), Aldridge was a star both at football and basketball and captained both teams. Aldridge was a three time all-star in football as a running back and in 1985 was elected to the Waterlloo Sports Hall of Fame.

Aldridge went on to have a ten year career in the CFL from1965 to 1974, all but the last season were with his hometown Argonauts before finishing with Hamilton. While an all-star running back at university, Aldridge was used mainly at linebacker with the Argonauts, recording 19 career interceptions and 13 career fumble recoveries. In 1970, Aldridge had a career high 7 pass interceptions. Aldridge scored two defensive touchdowns in his career, a 21 yard interception return for a TD in his rookie season and a 99 yard fumble return in 1968. Aldridge was also used as a kick returner early in his career, mainly on the "suicide squad" returning punts in an era of no blocking. Aldridge played in the 1971 Grey Cup loss to Calgary.

Besides playing football, Aldridge had a long career as a high school teacher. Aldridge continued to be involved in football, coaching at both the minor level and with York University.

Dick Aldridge passed away from cancer on June 26, 2004.
