Adkins would probably rank right up there with the fastest players to play in the CFL. This speedy receiver had a short three year career in the CFL, but it was a very bright one. Adkins joined the Ottawa Roughriders in 1967 and caught 46 passes for 985 yards in a 14 game schedule, and was named to the East All-Star team. His receptions and yards slipped a bit in 1968 with 32 catches for 821 yards, but that is an amazing 25.7 yard average. Adkins was part of the powerful Grey Cup Ottawa Rough Riders that included numerous hall of fame players like Russ Jackson, Ron Stewar,Whit Tucker, and Jerry Campbell as well as outstanding running backs Bo Scott and Vic Washington. That 1968 Ottawa team could well have been the best team in CFL history. In 1969, Adkins set career highls with 56 catches for 1402 yards wihich is a 25.0 yard average. Those numbers helped Adkins gain both East and All-Canadian honours in 1969. Unfortunately for Ottawa and the CFL, Adkins went south toe the NFL after 1969 and played there with Dallas, New Orleans and the New Jork Jets from 1970 to 1973.
