Jess Abelson

Jess Abelson was born in the United States in Cleveland, Ohio, but moved to Ottawa with his family when he was young. Besides football, Abelson was active in many other sports, most notably Basketballl. Abelson played for the Ottawa Rough Riders rom 1910 to the outbreak of World War I in 1915. After returning from the war, Abelson played two more seasons in 1919 and 1920. Abelson's son Duke Abelson followed in his father's footsteps as both an athlete and in military service. Jess Abelson donated atrophy in 1945 for Ottawa high school basketball players in memory of Duke, who was killed in battle during World War II.

Jess Abelson passed away in 1975.
