Pat
Abbruzzi was an outstanding rusher at Rhode Island (university) from 1951 to 1954 before signing with Montreal to replace Alex Webster who had departed for the NFL. Abbruzzi didn't disapoint the Alouettes or their fans as he ran for over a thousand yards in his first two seasons, winning East All-Stars in both seasons (there were no CFL All-Stars until 1962). In those two seasons, Abbruzzi piled up the touchdowns, scoring 17 rushing touchdowns in both seasons and finishing with 19 TDs in 1955 and 20 in 1956 when his receiving touchdowns were added in. Abbruzzi was named the Outstanding Player in the East in his rookie season in 1955. Abruzzi's stats fell off in 1957 and 1958, partly due to injuries and he was traded to Calgary in March of 1959 for Veryl Switzer - though Abruzzi never played for the Stampeders. Pat Abbruzzi passed away on June 3, 1998.
