Ted Workman

Ted Workman was born and raised in Montreal.  Workman attended Westmount Junior High School, Bishop's High School and graduated from Lower Canada College.  Workman then went on to attend McGill University.  Workman purchased the Montreal Aloutetes in December of 1954 and owned the team through 1967. Workman also served as team president from 1958 to 1965.

As the owner of the Alouettes, Workman helped to create the modern CFL from the two separate leagues of the IRFU (Big Four) and the WIFU, along with an interlocking schedule.  Workman also believed that the French population of Quebec would support football and he was certainly proved correct.

Under Workman's reign as Alouette owner, the team went to the Grey Cup in the first two years (1955 and 1956), but lost both times to the Edmonton Eskimos. Workman is largely given the blame for the botched trade in 1960 which sent Sam Etcheverry and Hal Patterson to Hamilton.  Etcheverry ended up a free agent and went South to the NFL, and started a decade long decline for Montreal.
