Frederick (Fred) Skelcher

Fred Skelcher served Canada in both world wars, as an artillaryman in World War I and a squadron leader in the RCARF in World War II. Skelcher was a referee in the IRFU / Big Four which became the East division of the modern CFL and in the ORfU (Ontario Rugby Football League).

In 1952, Skelcher became a co-owner of the Montreal Alouettes along with Charlie Stone and Roy Robertson, taking over the team from the co-founders Lew Hayman, Leo Dandurand and Eric Cradock.

Fred Skelcher passed away on March 3, 1967.
