Synopsis
1949 had not been a good year for the Hamilton football teams. The Wildcats had gone 0-12 in the IRFU and the Tigers while they won the ORFU were slaughtered 40-0 by Montreal in the East Final. It was evident that Hamilton was just going to be able to field two good teams and so the Tigers and the Wildcats combined to form the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The revived Hamilton squard actually finished first in the IRFU, but bowed to the Toronto Argonauts in the playoffs. Out West it was an almost complete turnover in the standings. The Stampeders who had been 12-0 in 1948 and 13-1 in 1949 fell to 4-10 and last place while the Winnpeg Blue Bombers rose from last to first. The Bombers would meet the Argos in the Grey Cup in what would  go on to be called the mud bowl.
