Mike Samples played college ball at Drake and was a 12th round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL in 1973. After his release by the Falcons, Samples came to the CFL and played 11 years from 1973 to 1983. Sample started his career with the BC Lions in 1973, playing just one game for the Leos. Samples moved to Hamilto where he played four and a part seasons wit hthe Tiger-Cats from 1974 to part way through the 1978 season. While with the Tiger-Cats, Samples won an East All-Star at defensive End in 1976. Samples joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders part way throug hthe 1978 season and would remain with the green Riders until 1983 when his career ended. Samples won two Esst All-Star selections at defensive tack in 1981 and 1982 and a CFL All-Star in 1981. There were no tackle stats kept during the years Samples played, and quarterback sacks stats were only kept for his final three years. Officiall, Samples recorded 13.5 quarterback sacks in those three years. Also in his career, Samples had six fumble recoveries and one pass interception. After retiring as a player, Samples served as an assistant coach with Saskatchewan from 1983 to 1985 and again in 1987. Drake Players Drafted by the NFL
