Rollin Prather

Rollin Prather was a tough two way end for the Edmonton Eskimos in the 1950s.  At six foot five inches, Prather was a big target for quarterbacks to throw to on offense and a towering presence on the defensive line.  Coming out of Kansas State, Prather joined the Eskimos in 1950 and played five season with them until 1954.  In his first three years, Prather was a significant part of the Edmonton offense, but was used almost exclusively on defense in his last two seasons.  Prather had 24 catches in his rookie season then upped that to 40 for 661 yards in 1951, good enough for fourth in the West.  Prather had similar stats in 1952 with 37 catches and that placed him fifth in the West.  Prather played in two Grey Cups, losing in 1952 to Toronto and then winning against Montreal in his final season in 1954.  Prather had a role in the famous Chuck Hunsinger Fumble and TD return by Jackie Parker for the touchdown.  As Hunsinger cut to his left, it was Prather who was closing in on him to make the tackle when the fumble (or incomplete pass according to Montreal) occured and Parker scooped it up and went for the TD that tied the game and was won on the Bob Dean convert.  Prather was a second team West All-Star at offensive end in 1950 and 1951, and a first team selection at offensive end in 1952.
