Al Phaneuf had a short, but highly successful three year career in the CFL. A Canadian boy from Almonte, Ontario, Phaneuf played college football at Kentucky and then joined the Alouettes in 1969. In his rookie season, Phaneuf had four interceptions and three fumble recoveries. 1970 was an excellent year, both for Phaneuf and the Alouettes. Montreal won the Grey Cup and Phaneuf picked off nie passes, tied for second in the East with only the great Garney Henley beating him with ten. Phaneuf won East and CFL All-Star recognition for that 1970 performance and was the runner-up for Outstanding Canadian. The Alouettes won the Grey Cup that year and Phaneuf added two more interceptions in the Grey Cup game. In his final season in 1971, Phaneuf added three more interceptions to bring his career total to 16. Wikipedia Article on Al Phaneuf
