David Overstreet

David Overstreet played his college ball with the powerful Oklahoma Sooners, and was a first round draft pick (13th overall) in 1981 by the Miami Dolphins of the NFL.  Overstreet had a contract dispute with the Dolphins, and was lured to the CFL by then Montreal owner, Nelson Skalbania.  Overstreet played two seasons for Montreal (1981 and 1982).  His 815 yards rushing as a rookie in 1981 led the East.  Injuries limited Overstreet to only 6 games in 1982.  Overstreet left the Als in 1983 to finally join the Dolphins and their star rookie quarterback Dan Marino.. Overstreet showed signs of promise with the Dolphins though he spent most of the year as a backup running back. Unfortunately for Overstreet, he fumbled the ball late in a playoff game that year that led to the winning touchdown by Seattle. David Overstreet never got a chance to redeem that fumble as he was killed in a car accident on June 25, 1984.

[Note:  Most sources list Overstreet as being born in Big Sandy, TX, but the 1981 and 82 Montreal Media Guides list him as being born in Rusk, TX.]
