Danny Nykoluk is pretty much the definition of a Toronto boy. Born in TO, Nykoluk played 17 seasons of football in Toronto from 1954 to 1971. Nykoluk started in 1954 with Toronto Balmy Beach, who were at the time acting as a farm team for the Argonauts. Nykoluk moved up to the "big team" in 1955 and remained with them until his retirement in 1971. Nykoluk won a pair of East All-Stars at offensive tackle in 1967 and1969. Nykoluk was also incredibly durable, playing 205 games in his career, and at one point from 1959 to 1970 had a streak of 12 straight years without missing agame. Nykoluk was also sometimes used on "trick" plays on offence. In that guise, Nykoluk had 4 receptions for 62 yards in 1960. Such long and faithful service deserverd a better reward than what Nykoluk got. The Argos went through their worst drought in their history, not making it to the Grey Cup during Nykoluk's entire career, except for his final season in 1971. Actually Nykoluk retired after the 1970 season, and came out of retirement when asked by coach Leo Cahill to replace the injured John Trainor at tackle. Nykoluk played the last regular season game, both playoff games and the Grey Cup. Unfortunately that was the the Argos lost to the Stampeders following the Leon McQuay fumble late in the game. Following his final retirement as a player, Nykoluk served as an assistant coach for one season with Hamilton in 1976.
