George McGowan

George McGowan was one of the top receivers of the 1970s.  At 6'2", he was a big target for Edmonton QBs and was a major part of the strong Edmonton teams of the mid 1970s.  McGowan had 49 catches for 827 yards in his rookie season in 1971. amd fp;;pwed tjat wotj 54 catches for 1015 yards in 1972.  1973 was not McGowan's best year statistically, but it was his best year awardwise.  McGowan caught 81 passes for 1123 yards to be named to the Est and CFL All-Start teams as well as being named the Oustanding Player in the CFL.  Injuries limited McGowan to only 4 games in 1974, but he bounced back with his best season in 1975 with 98 catches for 1472 yards.  Only a fantastic  season by running back Wilie Burden of the Stampeders probably prevented McGowan from capturing another Oustanding Player that year.  McGowan had to settle for his second West and CFL All-Star awards.  McGowen had 60 catches in 1976 and again captured both West and CFL All-Star selections.  His numbers fell off a bit in his final two seasons as injuries limited McGowan to only 10 games in each of those seasons.George McGowan was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2003
