A CIS product out of Mount Allison, Girard was a first round draft pick (fifth overall) of the Edmonton Eskimos in the 1998 CFL College Draft. Girard played four years with Edmonton (1998-2001), with his rookie season being his most productive. He played all 18 games in that initial season, recording 4 defensive tackles, 20 special teams tackles and recovering a fumble. The 20 special teams tackles led the Eskimos. Unfortunately, after such a promising start to his career, various injuries limited Girard to only 25 games over the next three seasons. Girard became a free agent after the 2001 season, and after resigning with Edmonton, he was released and missed the entire 2002 season. Montreal took the opportunity to sign the home town product in February of 2003. Girard played two seasons for the Als (2003-2004) before retiring. He played in 26 games for Montreal, backing up at linebacker and working on special teams where he had 7 special teams tackles in just twelve games in his final year. After retiring as a player, Girard started his own busines (OS Communications), but still remained involved in football as a vice-president of the Alouette Alumni (2009).
