Wes Gideon

A star at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, Gideon played a key role as a starting DB and backup quarterback in 1959 and 1960 with the Montreal Alouettes.  Gideo served as backup QB to Sam (The Rifle) Etcheverry,  one of the most durable QBs in football history. Gideion was slated to replace Etcheverry in 1961 when Etcheverry bolted for the NFL., but Gideon was released in favour of Nelson Yarbrough prior to the start of the regular season.  Gideon was picked up by the Argos where he served as a defensive back,  running back and emergency kicker in his last year in the CFL.
