Dwight Edwards

Edwards was a speedy Canadian receiver who played for five different teams in an eleven year career from 1978 to 1988.  Edwards's deep threat speed and his kick return ability made him a valuable commodity to CFL teams.  Edwards started his career in 1977 with Toronto but was released before the season began.  He returned for a second crack at making the lineup in 1978 and succeaded.  Edwards had 17 catches in his rookie season then broke out with 43 for 738 yards in his second season with the Argos.  Toronto traded Edwards to Saskatchewan in June of 1980 for a first round draft pick in the 1981 college draft.  Edwards spent four seasons wit hthe Riders from 1980-1983 and was a consistant contributor on offense with 44, 42, 38 and 37 catches in his four years.  The western Riders traded Edwards to Ottawa along with RB Chucky Davis for WR Carl Powell and DL Randy Fournier in February, 1984.  In his one season in Ottawa, Edwards had 33 catches and his best season running back kickoffs as he had 963 yards on 40 returns.  Edwards was traded to Calgary along with LB Dan Rashovich for QB Bernard Quarles and WR Phil Charron.  Edwards split his time in 1985 with three teams.  After his release by Calgary, Edwards had a second stint with Ottawa before being released and playing one game with Montreal.  Edwards played only one game in 1986 as Toronto signed him in NOvember.  Edwards played the next two season with Toronto both as a receiver and kick returner.
