James Curry

After playing college ball at the University of Nevada (Reno), Curry first came to the CFL in 1980. Curry had a slow start to his CFL career, but he more than made up for it as the years went by. After being released by both Calgary and Saskatchwan in 1980, Curry retired and that looked like the end of his football career. In 183, however Curry signed as a free agent with BC and recorded 6 sacks in 9 games before being waived by the Lions in October of 1983. Montreal picked him up and promptly traded him to Toronto for future considerations. Curry played two games for the Argos and recorded 1.5 sacks, but early in July of 1984, Toronto put Curry on waivers and he was claimed by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Before he could play a game for he Bombers, Curry was traded back to Toronto for more future considerations. That proved to be a very good move by Toronto as Curry lit the league on fire in 1984 with Toronto, recording 22 quarterback sacks to earn East and CFL All-Stars. 1985 was not quite as prolific with 12 sacks, but Curry repeated his East and CFL All-Star selections at defensive tackle. Despite that, Curry was released by the Argos prior to the start of the 1986 season. Montreal signed Curry for the second time, but again he didn't play a game for them before he was released and signed by Ottawa where he spent the 1986 season.. Injuries limited Curry to just 8 games, but he still recorded 10 quarterback sacks. Ottawa traded Curry to Saskatchewan in June of 1987 for fourth and fifth round draft picks in the 1988 CFL college draft. Curry played three seasons for hte green riders (1987-89), winnng West All-Stars in 1987 and 1989. Curry had his second highest sack total with Saskatchewan in 1989 to lead the CFL in sacks. Curry was also a big part of the 189 Saskatchwan Grey Cup championship team, just the second in franchise history. That was Curry's second Grey Cup victory as he was with Toronto in 1983 when they won the cup, recording 1.5 quarterback sacks in that game. In total, Curry had 85.5 career quarterback sacks. Curry had a brief stint with CBC as a color commentator. In 2007, Curry was arrested in the murder of his girlfriend but later released due to lack of evidence.
