Rick Cassata

Cassata joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1968, serving as the backup to Ron Lancaster.  In 1969, he moved to Winnipeg, but had only one pass attempt in six games.  After not playing in 1970, Cassata returned to the CFL with the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1971.  Cassata played four seasons in Ottawa, in the era between the retirement of HOF QB Russ Jackson and the arrival of two other HOF quarterbacks, Tom Clements and Conredge Holloway, in 1975.  In 1971, Cassata split the QB duties with former NFL QB Gary Wood, and then took over as the undisputed #1 QB in 1972 when he had his best season.  He threw 357 passes and completed 50.1% of them for 2548 yards.  In 1973 an 1974, Cassata shared the QB duties with veteran Jerry Keeling.  After not playing in 1975, Cassata returned for one final season, splitting his time between Hamilton and BC.
