After graduating from Prairie View A & M (El Campo, TX), Bailey had a tryout with the Dallas Cowboys in 1969 that last five exhibition games. After Riders tight end Jim Warden retired, Saskatchewan recruited Bailey. The big six foot two tight end had two productive seasons with the Riders. In 1970 Bailey had 30 catches and upped that to 36 in 1971 while proving to be an excellent blocker.
